THE PURPOSE OF THE ASSOCIATION IS TO PROTECT RESIDENTS OF SOUTH DAKOTA, AND OTHERS UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, AGAINST FAILURE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS UNDER LIFE AND HEALTH INSURANCE POLICIES AND ANNUITY CONTRACTS BECAUSE OF THE IMPAIRMENT OR INSOLVENCY OF A MEMBER INSURER THAT ISSUED SUCH POLICIES OR CONTRACTS.
