The Amistad Center for Art & Culture, Inc. is a dynamic cultural institution that cares for and provides public access to its collection of more than 7,000 works of art and artifacts that document the African American experience and can be considered a national treasure. Through high caliber exhibitions and culture-based education programs and events inspired by this collection, The Amistad Center engages, enlightens, and entertains art enthusiasts, scholars, students, individuals and families throughout the Greater Hartford region and, through traveling exhibitions, the nation. The Amistad Center is housed in the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, the country's oldest public art museum, which uniquely enables our institution to serve and satisfy a variety of audiences and interests.
