Mission

FARMacy WV:Prescriptions for Produce has the express mission of supplying affordable, accessible fresh locally grown produce to patients who have the burden of chronic disease as well as food insecurity in the home. In addition, we provide a 9 week basic nutrition and culinary instruction course to help patients understand why it is important to eat healthy as well as how to prepare the $25 worth of produce they receive weekly for 15 weeks. Health metrics, i.e. pre and post laboratory data, weights, BPs, as well as pre and post surveys are collected to monitor the improvement of the participants over the course of the 15 week program. Health clinics, hospitals and physician practices are linked to local farmers and growers as well as educators to provide the program. The FARMacy WV planning team is instrumental in training, monitoring, and implementation of the program.
