National Volunteer Fire Council's (the council) mission is to formulate and promulgate programs useful to the fire and emergency services of the United States, represent the volunteer fire and EMS in national legislative & standards-making matters, represent the interests of the member state fire and emergency organizations at the congress of the United States and with the various federal agencies, provide a national voice for the volunteer fire and emergency medical services and to do all other things designed to better preserve the lives and property of the citizens of the United States.
