THE PACIFIC FISHERY MANAGEMENT COUNCIL WAS FOUNDED UNDER THE MAGNUSON FISHERY CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT ACT OF 1976, ALONG WITH SEVEN OTHER REGIONAL COUNCILS. THE PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITY OF THE COUNCIL IS TO DEVELOP, MONITOR, AND REVISE MANAGEMENT PLANS FOR OCEAN FISHERIES WITHIN A GEOGRAPHIC REGION OF AUTHORITY, INCLUDING THE STATES OF CALIFORNIA, OREGON, WASHINGTON, AND IDAHO.
