THESE UNDERWATER MEADOWS PROVIDE SHELTER AND NURSERY GROUNDS FOR JUVENILE FISH, INVERTEBRATES, ENDANGERED SPECIES, AND SPORT FISHERIES. THEY SERVE AS A FOOD SOURCE FOR HERBIVORES LIKE SEA TURTLES AND MANATEES, WHILE ALSO PRODUCING OXYGEN AND SEQUESTERING CARBON HELPING MITIGATE CLIMATE CHANGE.HOWEVER, SEAGRASS HABITATS ARE VULNERABLE TO THREATS SUCH AS COASTAL DEVELOPMENT, POLLUTION, BOAT DAMAGE, AND CLIMATE CHANGE. THEIR DESTRUCTION CAN LEAD TO BIODIVERSITY LOSS AND ECOSYSTEM COLLAPSE. CONSERVATION EFFORTS FOCUS ON PROTECTING AND RESTORING THESE HABITATS TO MAINTAIN THE HEALTH OF MARINE COMMUNITIES AND COASTAL ECOSYSTEMS.
