TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO THE FAMILIES OF CERTIFIED PEACE OFFICERS AND FIREFIGHTERS WHO ARE KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED IN THE LINE OF DUTY AND TO PROVIDE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND FIREFIGHTING AGENCIES WITH LIFE- PROTECTING EQUIPMENT THAT CANNOT OTHERWISE BE OBTAINED.
