TO THAT END, THE BOARD AND STAFF OF THE MUSEUM ARE CHARGED TO ADMINISTER, OPERATE AND MAINTAIN A NONPROFIT MUSEUM IN A PROFESSIONAL AND FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE MANNER, UNDERTAKING ACTIVITIES DEEMED APPROPRIATE TO ITS PURPOSE; TO COLLECT, PRESERVE, AND EXHIBIT ITEMS OF MUSEUM QUALITY, WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON GREENWOOD COUNTY AND THE SURROUNDING REGION; TO PROVIDE PERMANENT AND CHANGING EXHIBITS AND PUBLIC EVENTS THAT WILL ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING AND ENJOYMENT OF CULTURAL AND NATURAL HISTORY, TECHNOLOGY, AND THE ARTS; AND TO ENCOURAGE RESIDENTS AND VISITORS TO VISIT THE MUSEUM AND TAKE PART IN ITS ACTIVITIES, AND LEARN FROM ITS EXHIBITS.
