THE FOOD BANK WAS ESTABLISHED IN ORDER TO EFFICIENTLY GATHER, WAREHOUSE, AND DISTRIBUTE FOOD PRODUCTS TO CONTRA COSTA COUNTY CHARITIES MEETING EMERGENCY FOOD (CONTINUED ON SCH O) NEEDS. IN NOVEMBER 1996 THE FOOD BANK TOOK OVER RESPONSIBILITY FOR PROVIDING FOOD TO SOLANO COUNTY CHARITIES. IN FURTHERANCE OF ITS PURPOSE, THE FOOD BANK PROVIDES FOOD TO SUPPLEMENTAL FEEDING PROGRAMS, PROMOTES AWARENESS OF HUNGER, FOOD WASTE AND THE VALUE OF PROPER NUTRITION. THE FOOD BANK IS GOVERNED BY A BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF AT LEAST ELEVEN MEMBERS. THE FOOD BANK RECEIVES FUNDING FROM PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SOURCES.
