FOUNDED IN 1953, THE AFRICA-AMERICA INSTITUTE PROMOTES ENLIGHTENED ENGAGEMENT BETWEEN AFRICA AND AMERICA THROUGH EDUCATION, TRAINING AND DIALOGUE. AAI DESIGNS AND MANAGES PROGRAMS THAT ENABLE AFRICAN STUDENTS TO PURSUE ACADEMIC DEGREES AND NON-DEGREE PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATES AT QUALITY TERTIARY (POST SECONDARY) INSTITUTIONS WITHIN AND OUTSIDE AFRICA. AAI PROGRAMS ALSO PROVIDE A PLATFORM FOR AFRICAN PERSPECTIVES TO INFORM U.S. POLICIES AND ATTITUDES TOWARD AFRICA THAT HAVE A BEARING ON AFRICAN HUMAN CAPACITY BUILDING. AAI'S CORE PURPOSE IS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE REDUCTION OF POVERTY AND UNEMPLOYMENT, AND THE EXPANSION OF FREEDOM, IN AFRICA. TO DATE WE HAVE ROUGHLY 23,000 ALUMNI WHO HAVE BENEFITED FROM OUR ADVANCED ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS.
